JumpCloud Review 2026: Pricing, Pros, Cons for SMB IT
What JumpCloud's three packages and a la carte products cost a small IT team, what each includes, and where Okta, Microsoft Entra ID, Duo and Rippling price against it, with figures checked on vendor pages in October 2026.
JumpCloud is worth it for a small IT team that wants one console for user accounts and the laptops those users carry, and it costs between $9 and $13 per user a month billed yearly. Device Management is the cheapest package, the SSO package sits in the middle and Device Identity Management, which combines both, is the top rate. Monthly billing adds $2 to each, and the Platform bundles carry no public price.
A 25-person company on Device Identity Management pays $3,900 a year. The catch is that every identity feature beyond the packages is a separate a la carte line, so a team that keeps adding products reaches the quote-only Platform tier fast. If you only need SSO and MFA, Okta Starter or Duo Essentials costs less, and JumpCloud earns its price when device management is part of the brief. Prices were read on JumpCloud's pricing page in October 2026.
Key factsBest for: Small IT teams that want user identity and Mac, Windows and…
- A cloud directory that manages the device as well as the user, priced per user per product.
- Identity plus devices: Device Identity Management, billed yearly
- Free trial: 30 days, full platform
- Operating systems managed: Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS and Android
- Alternatives covered: Okta, Microsoft Entra ID, Cisco Duo, Rippling
Pros
- Device Identity Management covers SSO, MFA, device management and the password manager in one subscription.
- Manages Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS and Android, with Cloud LDAP and Cloud RADIUS as base-rate add-ons to retire on-premises servers.
- The 30-day trial opens the full platform with no restrictions and includes 24x7 premium support.
Cons
- Every extra product is its own per-user line, so a team that adds passwordless, patching and access requests outgrows the fixed packages quickly.
- Suspended users are billed as normal users, and the Platform bundles above Essentials carry no public price.

JumpCloud sells a cloud directory that also manages the device the user signs in from, which is the combination a one- or two-person IT team usually has to assemble from two or three vendors.
The question for a small company is not whether the product works but whether the per-user price, which climbs as you add identity features, beats a separate identity provider plus a separate MDM. For most teams under 300 people that want both in one place, the arithmetic favors JumpCloud, and for teams that only need sign-in it does not.
This review prices the three packages and the a la carte catalog, computes the bill for a 25-person company, and sets the result against Okta, Microsoft Entra ID, Cisco Duo and Rippling using each vendor's own pricing page.
It also lists the terms a buyer tends to miss: suspended users still bill, monthly billing costs more, and the top bundles are quote-only.
What is JumpCloud?
JumpCloud is an open directory platform: a cloud-hosted directory of users and devices that provides single sign-on, multi-factor authentication, a password manager, Cloud LDAP and Cloud RADIUS, and device management for Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS and Android.
The vendor positions it as the single control plane for identity, access and devices, so the same user record that grants SSO to a SaaS app can also enforce disk encryption and push a patch to that person's laptop. That unification is the product's whole pitch, and the pricing page is built around it.
The catalog has three layers. Three fixed packages cover device management, SSO, or both together. A la carte products, from Cloud Directory and MFA at the base rate to Passwordless Authentication and Access Requests at a higher one, let a team buy only what it needs.
Three Platform bundles (Essentials, Platform and Platform Prime) wrap everything, including Zero Trust, SaaS management and premium support, and are sold by sales quote. Platform Essentials is capped at 300 users, which tells you where JumpCloud places its small-business ceiling. The product profile is on Toolradar.
How JumpCloud works
Setup starts with the 30-day free trial, which the vendor says opens the full platform with zero restrictions and includes 24x7 premium support. The admin creates users in the directory or imports them, installs the JumpCloud agent on each device, and binds the user to the device so the local account follows the cloud identity.
From there, SSO connectors handle the SaaS apps, the MFA product adds a second factor on both app and device login, and the device management product applies policies, patches and remote assistance. A leaver is handled in one step: suspend the user, and the device login, the SSO sessions and the LDAP or RADIUS access go with it.
Billing follows the products you turn on. JumpCloud bills on the 1st of each month for the previous month, accepts cards and ACH, and offers invoicing for accounts above $2,000 a month.
Two rules in the FAQ matter for a budget: suspended users are retained and billed as normal users, so a suspended account is not a free parking spot, and monthly billing runs above the yearly rate on every package.
The day-to-day friction is scope, not setup: each new need (passwordless, access requests, patching, SaaS license tracking) is another line on the invoice.
JumpCloud key features
JumpCloud pricing
JumpCloud prices were read on the JumpCloud pricing page on October 17, 2026, in USD. Device Management, the SSO package and Device Identity Management bill yearly at the rates in the table, and monthly billing on each costs $2 more per user. Platform Essentials, Platform and Platform Prime are sold through sales, and Premium Support is a $2 add-on per user a month on a yearly term.
A 25-person company that wants both device and identity management pays $3,900 a year on Device Identity Management, which is the top package rate times 25 users times 12 months. The same company billed monthly pays $4,500, so the yearly commitment saves $600. At 50 users the yearly bill is $7,800, and at 100 users $15,600. Adding Premium Support to the 25-person plan costs another $600 a year.
The a la carte catalog is where the bill grows. Cloud Directory, MFA, SSO, User Lifecycle Management, Password Management, Directory Insights, Cloud LDAP, Cloud RADIUS, Conditional Access, Patch Management, Remote Access and SaaS License Management are each $3 per user a month on a yearly term. MDM, Passwordless Authentication and Access Requests are $5. A team on the Device Management package that adds Cloud Directory, SSO and MFA a la carte reaches $18 per user a month, above the combined package, so the package is the better buy once identity enters the picture.
Alternatives, from each vendor's own pricing page the same day: Okta Starter is $6 per user a month billed yearly with a $1,500 annual minimum and no device management; Microsoft Entra ID P1 is $7 per user a month on an annual commitment, with a free tier that covers MFA and SSO for Microsoft cloud customers; Cisco Duo Essentials is $3 per user a month, free for up to 10 users; Rippling says plans start at $8 per employee a month plus a monthly base fee and quotes the rest. Toolradar data: Toolradar, the software directory we run, evaluated 103 identity and access tools for its October 2026 identity and access ranking, and JumpCloud sits at number 3 on that list.

JumpCloud pros and cons
What we like
- Device Identity Management covers SSO, MFA, device management and the password manager in one subscription.
- Manages Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS and Android, with Cloud LDAP and Cloud RADIUS as base-rate add-ons to retire on-premises servers.
- The 30-day trial opens the full platform with no restrictions and includes 24x7 premium support.
What could be better
- Every extra product is its own per-user line, so a team that adds passwordless, patching and access requests outgrows the fixed packages quickly.
- Suspended users are billed as normal users, and the Platform bundles above Essentials carry no public price.
Who JumpCloud is for
JumpCloud fits a company of roughly 10 to 300 people with a small IT team, a mixed fleet of Mac, Windows and Linux machines, and no appetite for running Active Directory. The clearest win is the shop that is paying one vendor for identity and another for MDM and wants one invoice and one offboarding step.
If your security lead's first requirement is that a departed employee loses the laptop login and the SaaS sessions in the same click, this is the product built for it.
Who should skip it: a company that already pays for Microsoft 365 Business Premium or E3, because Entra ID P1 is included there and the identity half of JumpCloud duplicates it. A team that needs only SSO and MFA for SaaS apps, with devices handled elsewhere, pays less on Okta Starter or Duo Essentials.
And a company that expects to pass 300 users soon should price the quote-only Platform bundle before it commits, because Platform Essentials stops there. For the broader stack a solo admin runs, see our guide to the best security tools for an IT team of one.
Best JumpCloud alternatives
If JumpCloud is not the right fit, these are the closest options.
| Tool | Best for | Starts at | |
|---|---|---|---|
| JumpCloud | Small IT teams that want user identity and Mac, Windows and Linux device management in one console. | From $9/user/mo (Device Management, billed yearly) | Visit → |
| Okta | Companies that need a workforce identity provider with deep app integrations and no device management. | Starter $6/user/mo billed yearly, $1,500 annual minimum | Visit → |
| Microsoft Entra ID | Companies already paying for Microsoft 365 that want identity without a new vendor. | Free tier with Microsoft cloud subscriptions | Visit → |
| Cisco Duo | Teams whose first job is MFA and SSO across apps and VPNs, at the lowest per-user price. | Free for up to 10 users | Visit → |
| Rippling | Companies that want identity, devices, payroll and HR on one employee record and will take a quote. | Plans start at $8 per employee/mo plus a monthly base fee | Visit → |
The bottom line
JumpCloud is the right buy when the brief says identity and devices, in that order, for a company under 300 people. Billed yearly, Device Identity Management replaces an identity provider and an MDM with one subscription and one offboarding step, and a 25-person company pays $3,900 a year for it. Pay yearly, because monthly billing costs that same company $600 more.
Skip it when identity is the whole requirement. Okta Starter and Duo Essentials cover SSO and MFA for less, and a Microsoft 365 Business Premium tenant already owns Entra ID P1. Watch the a la carte lines: three of them push the per-user cost past the combined package, and the Platform bundles that follow have no public price. Ask for the renewal terms in writing before you sign the yearly contract.
