Bitdefender Pricing 2026: First-Year Prices and Renewals

Bitdefender pricing in 2026: Total Security $59.99, Premium Security $79.99 and Ultimate Security $89.99 for the first year, plus what the renewal fine print says.

Bitdefender Pricing 2026: First-Year Prices and Renewals

Bitdefender costs $24.99 for the first year on Antivirus Plus for one device, $59.99 on Total Security for five devices, $79.99 on Premium Security and $89.99 on Ultimate Security. Family plans covering five people and 25 devices start at $79.99. Those are the US prices on Bitdefender's consumer pages on 17 October 2026, and each one is a first-year rate: the same pages say the subscription then renews "at the applicable renewal price, which may be higher". The terms make the struck-through price that rate.

That last sentence is the whole story of Bitdefender pricing. The first-year figures are low for what the suites include, and the renewal figure is the struck-through price beside each one, 1.5 to 2 times higher. This guide lays out every first-year price, its renewal price, what each tier adds, and how to budget for year two.

Every price is in US dollars before sales tax, read on 17 October 2026 on the vendor's US consumer pages; the Antivirus Plus prices and the renewal column were re-read on 19 October 2026. The renewal column is the struck-through price each plan picker shows, because Bitdefender's auto-renewal terms say a discount shown on the page "describes the difference between the first term and renewal term subscription prices". The vendor adds that prices are subject to change and that it emails the renewal price before it bills.

Toolradar data: Toolradar, the software directory we run, compares 36 VPN tools and lists Bitdefender among them, with its price last re-checked on 14 October 2026. The vendor's standalone VPN is the cheapest way to get Bitdefender's unlimited VPN without the suite, which matters below when we price Premium Security against Total Security plus a VPN.

How much does Bitdefender Antivirus cost for one PC?

Nothing, if a Windows PC is all you protect and you can live without support. Bitdefender Antivirus Free for Windows has no expiry and no trial clock, and the vendor page says it carries real-time scanning, ransomware defense and phishing protection, plus the basic VPN capped at 200 MB a day per device. It runs on Windows 7 and later.

Antivirus Plus is the paid step. It costs $24.99 for the first year on one device and $39.99 for up to three (read 19 October 2026), with a two-year option in the picker. The product page lists Windows, macOS, Android and iOS, so the three-device plan can cover a laptop and two phones rather than three PCs. The VPN stays capped at 200 MB a day, and the plan adds scam protection and data breach detection.

Mac owners have a separate line. Antivirus for Mac costs the same as Antivirus Plus for one or three Macs, and it is the only product that prints two-year and three-year prices in full, all four of them in the table above. Its extra is Time Machine Protection, which guards backed-up files against ransomware. A household mixing Macs and PCs should skip both single-OS lines and read the suite section next, since the five-device suites cost less than two separate products.

Total Security vs Premium Security: what the extra $20 buys

Total Security is the suite most buyers end up on. At $59.99 for the first year it covers five devices across Windows, macOS, Android and iOS for one person, bundles the password manager and email protection, and keeps the VPN at the 200 MB daily cap. The family version lifts that to five members and 25 devices for a modest premium.

Premium Security is the same suite with the cap removed. For $79.99 a year on the individual plan, or $99.99 for the family, the VPN becomes unlimited across the vendor's 3,000-plus servers in 100-plus countries, and the suite adds Scam Protection Pro, the ad blocker and the anti-tracker. Everything else matches Total Security.

The arithmetic favors Premium if you want the VPN at all. Total Security plus the standalone Premium VPN costs $94.98 for the first year, while Premium Security includes the same unlimited VPN for $14.99 less. Buying the pieces separately also gives you two renewal dates instead of one.

The arithmetic goes the other way if you already pay for a VPN you trust. Then the step from Total to Premium buys only the scam filter and the ad blocker, and Total Security is the better deal. Our cheapest VPN guide prices the standalone options to set against that $20.

One product is gone from this lineup. Bitdefender Internet Security has been discontinued, and the vendor's page says Total Security and Premium Security replaced it. Any guide still quoting an Internet Security price is quoting a product you can no longer buy.

Ultimate Security and Ultimate Security Plus: identity on top

Ultimate Security adds identity monitoring to Premium Security. For a small step above Premium Security on either plan, you get continuous dark web monitoring, real-time breach notifications and a digital footprint view, on top of the unlimited VPN and the password manager. Nothing in this tier is insurance; it tells you when your data leaks, and it stops there.

Ultimate Security Plus is where insurance starts, and it comes in two levels. The Standard level costs $119.99 for the first year on the individual plan and $179.99 for the family, and it adds identity theft insurance of up to $1,000,000, credit monitoring from one bureau, stolen wallet protection and a Social Security number tracker. The Extended level costs $139.99 individual and $199.99 family, raises the insurance to $2,000,000 per household, monitors three bureaus, and adds reimbursement of up to $25,000 each for social engineering losses and ransomware payments, plus court records and change-of-address alerts.

The gap between Ultimate and Ultimate Plus is the decision point. For $30 more a year on the individual plan, Standard replaces a monitoring service with an insured one. Whether that beats a dedicated identity product depends on what you already hold; our Aura vs LifeLock comparison prices the specialists against each other, and both charge more than Bitdefender's $30 step for the first year.

Family plans: the per-person math

A family plan covers five members and 25 devices at every suite level. The family premium over the individual plan is $20 on Total Security and Premium Security, $30 on Ultimate Security, and $60 on both levels of Ultimate Security Plus.

Set that against five individual subscriptions and the family plan wins by a wide margin. Five Premium Security individual plans would cost $399.95 for the first year, where the family plan saves $299.96 against that total. The break-even sits at two people: two individual Premium plans cost $159.98, so a couple already saves $59.99 by picking the family version.

The family plans also carry parental controls, which the vendor lists on the family pages only: internet time limits, content filtering, routines, location tracking and activity reports. A parent buying for one child's phone plus their own devices is therefore shopping the family tier even if "five members" sounds oversized.

A second subscription is the only route past five members. No vendor page prints a per-seat price for a sixth person, so a larger household budgets two family plans and two renewal dates.

What happens at renewal

Every US price above is labeled as a first-year price, and the vendor's wording on each product page is the same: "The price offered is valid for the first year of subscription. After that, your subscription will be billed at the applicable renewal price which may be higher than the initial purchase price." The same terms say that a discount shown on the page "describes the difference between the first term and renewal term subscription prices (e.g., first year price vs. each year thereafter)". The struck-through price is therefore the renewal rate, and on the suites it runs 1.5 to 1.8 times the first-year price.

Three protections sit around that jump. Bitdefender says it sends an email notification before the automatic renewal, with the pricing and the term; you can cancel auto-renewal at any time from Bitdefender Central or by writing to [email protected]; and the refund terms allow a full refund within 30 days of the initial purchase or of the automatic renewal date. That last clause is the one to remember, because it means a renewal charge you did not expect can still be reversed if you act inside a month.

The practical move is to set a reminder for eleven months after purchase, read the renewal email, and decide then. Antivirus and VPN vendors frequently price a new first-year subscription below the renewal rate, and the refund window after renewal gives you room to compare.

Is the two-year plan a discount?

Against the renewal price, yes. Total Security's two-year individual price is exactly twice the first-year rate, and the family plan's $159.99 is exactly twice its first-year price. Premium Security follows the same pattern at $159.99 and $199.99 for two years. The second year is priced at the first-year rate instead of the renewal rate.

That makes the two-year plan a real saving if you keep Bitdefender. Two years of Total Security for one person cost $119.99 up front, against $169.98 for a first year plus a renewal year at the table's prices, a $49.99 difference; on Premium Security for one person the gap is the same, about $60 on the Total Security family plan and $70 on the Premium Security family plan. That is our arithmetic on printed prices, and the renewal rate can change before it is billed. If you expect to switch products within a year, the one-year plan loses nothing.

Antivirus for Mac is the exception, because its multi-year plans carry no discount. Three years on one Mac cost $89.99, or $30 a year, against $104.97 for a $24.99 first year plus two renewal years at $39.99, so the three-year plan saves $14.98. The two-year plan at $69.99 costs more than a first year plus one renewal ($64.98).

Which Bitdefender plan to buy

  • One Windows PC, no support needed: Antivirus Free.
  • One to three devices, no VPN use: Antivirus Plus, the cheapest paid tier.
  • One person, up to five mixed devices, VPN under 200 MB a day: Total Security, the cheapest suite.
  • One person who wants an unlimited VPN: Premium Security, which undercuts Total Security plus the standalone VPN by $14.99.

  • Anyone who wants identity insurance: Ultimate Security Plus, Standard or Extended, for one person.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Bitdefender cost per year?

From under $25 to $139.99 for one person in the first year, depending on the tier: Antivirus Plus on one device sits at the bottom and Ultimate Security Plus Extended at the top. Family plans cost between $20 and $60 more than the matching individual plan. The second year is billed at the renewal price, the struck-through figure on the page: from $49.99 on Antivirus Plus for one device to $249.99 on Ultimate Security Plus Extended for one person.

Is Bitdefender free?

Yes, on Windows. Bitdefender Antivirus Free has no expiry date and includes real-time protection and the 200 MB-a-day VPN. There is no free tier for the suites, but every paid product carries a 30-day money-back guarantee, and the Mac antivirus and the SecurePass password manager each offer a 30-day free trial.

What is the Bitdefender renewal price?

It is the struck-through price next to each first-year offer: the auto-renewal terms say a discount shown "describes the difference between the first term and renewal term subscription prices". On 19 October 2026 that meant $49.99 a year for Antivirus Plus on one device, $109.99 for Total Security and $129.99 for Premium Security, each for one person. Prices are subject to change; Bitdefender emails the renewal price before it charges, and a refund is available within 30 days of the renewal date.

Does Bitdefender Total Security include a VPN?

Yes, with a cap of 200 MB a day per device. Unlimited VPN traffic starts at Premium Security, which costs $20 more than Total Security on both the individual and the family plan for the first year.

Is Bitdefender Premium Security worth the extra cost?

It is if you would otherwise buy a VPN. Premium Security includes the unlimited VPN that sells alone for $34.99, so the bundle costs $14.99 less than Total Security plus that VPN for the first year. If you keep a VPN from another vendor, the extra money buys only the scam filter, the ad blocker and the anti-tracker.

Can I cancel Bitdefender auto-renewal?

Yes. The vendor says you can cancel the automatic subscription at any time from Bitdefender Central or by contacting support, and that it sends an email before each renewal. Cancelling auto-renewal keeps the current subscription running until its end date.
