ESET Review 2026: Pricing, Pros, Cons and Alternatives

What ESET PROTECT costs per device, what the managed tier adds, how its lab results read, and four alternatives priced on the same dated basis.

TL;DR

ESET is a solid, low-priced choice for small and mid-size IT teams, but the managed detection that security buyers want only starts in its Premium tier. On ESET's US business subscription page, PROTECT Core costs $54.90 per device a year for 5 to 10 devices on a one-year term, and the rate falls to $46.70 from 11 devices.

The biggest strength is the lab record: AV-TEST gave ESET's business product, tested as PROTECT Advanced 12.1, a 6 out of 6 for protection in its October and December 2025 Windows rounds. The biggest catch is that 24/7 monitoring is not in Core. Premium's device picker starts at 10 devices, where it costs $1,030.00 a year. If nobody on your team reads alerts, compare Premium with Huntress, not with Core's list price.

  • AV-TEST business score: Protection 6, performance 5.5, usability 6 (December 2025)
  • Toolradar ratings: 4.7 out of 5 across 2,173 reviews (September 2026)
  • Alternatives covered: CrowdStrike Falcon Go, SentinelOne Singularity Complete, Bitdefender GravityZone Business Security, Huntress Managed EDR

Pros

  • AV-TEST scored the tested ESET PROTECT Advanced 12.1 build 6 out of 6 for protection in its October and December 2025 business Windows rounds.
  • Core covers antivirus, firewall and device control, cloud sandboxing and full disk encryption for one per-device price.
  • The per-device rate falls to $46.70 at 11 devices and $38.40 at 50, so larger fleets pay less per seat.

Cons

  • No monthly billing on the US page, and the managed tier needs at least 10 devices.
  • Remote access for troubleshooting is listed as planned for Q1 2027, so it is not in the product you would buy today.
  • The per-device rate steps at 11, 26 and 50 devices, so a one-device change can move the bill.

For a security lead or IT admin, ESET comes down to three questions: what it costs per device, whether it catches malware, and whether anyone watches the alerts. We answer them from ESET's business subscription page, AV-TEST's published business Windows results and Toolradar's rating data, then set ESET against CrowdStrike, SentinelOne, Bitdefender and Huntress.

Toolradar data: we track 2,173 reviews of ESET across G2 and Capterra, averaging 4.7 out of 5 (September 2026), on our ESET tool page.

This review covers the business line only. Home plans serve a different buyer, and our Mac antivirus comparison sets ESET's home product beside its rivals.

What is ESET PROTECT?

ESET is a privately held, European-based security company with its North American office in San Diego. Its business line is sold as ESET PROTECT: one platform with a cloud console, next-generation antivirus, a firewall, cloud sandboxing, full disk encryption and add-ons for email, patching and multi-factor sign-in.

ESET says it protects 500,000 business customers in 178 countries and territories.

For buyers, the tier matters more than the brand. Core is the antivirus-first plan, and Premium is the one with a managed detection service.

Our business antivirus comparison ranks ESET against the wider field.

The business page lists no separate Advanced tier today, so Core and Premium are the names you will see at checkout, even though AV-TEST tested the business product under the Advanced name.

How ESET PROTECT works

You pick a device count and a term of one to three years, then buy online or through a partner. The US page shows no monthly option, so the minimum commitment is a year. The fleet is managed from the ESET PROTECT cloud console.

Accounts activated after August 1, 2024 sign in through ESET PROTECT Hub, and older accounts use the separate ESET Business Account login, which matters if you inherit an old tenant.

Plan the seat count before you buy, because the bill is annual. If the Microsoft 365 bill is already yours, our Microsoft Defender for Business review is the comparison to run.

ESET PROTECT key features

Next-generation antivirus on every endpoint typeEssential
Core protects computers, servers, mobiles and cloud virtual machines with the multilayered ESET LiveSense detection stack. A fleet that mixes laptops, servers and phones is where one product covers the estate instead of three separate tools.
Firewall, web and device control
Core filters network traffic, blocks risky websites and controls which external devices can connect. Those controls cover data-loss routes that antivirus alone misses, and they sit in the base price rather than as an add-on.
Cloud sandboxing with LiveGuard
ESET calls this AI-powered threat analysis with real-time response: suspicious files are deobfuscated and run in a sandbox. It targets new malware that signature checks miss, which is the threat most buyers ask about first.
Full disk encryption
Quantum-ready encryption covers system disks and partitions across whole devices. ESET positions it as a compliance tool, and it is included in Core, so a lost laptop falls under the same subscription as the antivirus.
24/7 managed detection (Premium only)Essential
Premium adds expert-led threat monitoring around the clock and LiveAI, an assistant that returns summaries and suggestions through a natural-language interface. ESET says it can contain threats in as little as six minutes. That is the vendor's own claim, not an independent measurement.
Plus package: email, patching and MFA
The Plus package adds protection for Microsoft 365, Google Workspace and mail servers, automated vulnerability discovery and patching, and cloud multi-factor sign-in with push approval. Integrated remote access is listed as planned for Q1 2027, so do not buy the package for it yet.

ESET PROTECT pricing

All prices were checked on October 10, 2026, on ESET's US business subscription page and on each rival's own pricing page the same day. The total is the device count times the per-device rate times the years.

Core's rate steps down at 11, 26 and 50 devices and does not fall further over a longer term, so a three-year deal costs exactly three times the one-year price.

The step at 11 devices catches people out. Ten devices cost $549.00 a year and eleven cost $513.70, so a team of ten that adds one device lowers its bill.

Premium starts at 10 devices and costs $1,030.00 a year at that count, or $103.00 per device. It falls to $93.30 from 11 devices, $82.30 from 26 and $76.90 from 50. Guided onboarding is a $216.00 add-on on the Premium card.

Small Office Protection, aimed at 5 to 25 devices with no IT admin, costs $179.99 a year for five devices and $512.50 for 25.

Ultimate covers 99 devices with expert supervision and is quote-only.

At 10 devices for one year, using each vendor's list price, the options compare as follows: ESET Core $549.00, ESET Premium $1,030.00, Huntress Managed EDR $1,078.80 at its $8.99 monthly list rate, CrowdStrike Falcon Go $599.90 at $59.99 per device, and SentinelOne Singularity Complete $1,799.90 at $179.99 per endpoint.

Bitdefender sets its price in an on-page calculator by device count and term, so this review quotes no figure for it.

Two gotchas sit outside the list prices.

The page shows one annual price per device with no separate first-term or renewal figure, so ask your reseller for the renewal rate in writing before you commit to three years.

The page also lists no monthly option, so the first bill is the annual one.

Methodology: we read ESET's business subscription page, the rival pricing pages, AV-TEST's ESET business results on October 10, 2026.

Toolradar's ratings were last checked in September 2026. We computed device-count totals from list prices. We did not install or test the products ourselves.

ESET PROTECT pros and cons

What we like

  • AV-TEST scored the tested ESET PROTECT Advanced 12.1 build 6 out of 6 for protection in its October and December 2025 business Windows rounds.
  • Core covers antivirus, firewall and device control, cloud sandboxing and full disk encryption for one per-device price.
  • The per-device rate falls to $46.70 at 11 devices and $38.40 at 50, so larger fleets pay less per seat.

What could be better

  • No monthly billing on the US page, and the managed tier needs at least 10 devices.
  • Remote access for troubleshooting is listed as planned for Q1 2027, so it is not in the product you would buy today.
  • The per-device rate steps at 11, 26 and 50 devices, so a one-device change can move the bill.

Who ESET PROTECT is for

ESET PROTECT Core fits an IT team of 5 to 99 devices that wants one console, a lab-tested antivirus product and a per-device rate under $60. It suits offices that already have someone reading alerts, or that will buy managed detection from a partner.

It also suits a team that wants endpoint protection and disk encryption from one vendor, plus email and multi-factor sign-in once it adds the Plus package.

Skip it if you need monthly billing, managed monitoring for fewer than 10 devices, or remote troubleshooting before 2027.

A team that wants a managed security operations center from day one should compare Premium with Huntress and read our managed detection services guide, not Core's headline rate. For a single laptop, the home plans are the right product, and our endpoint protection shortlist covers larger estates.

The bottom line

ESET is the value pick for an antivirus-first buy: at 5 to 10 devices, Core costs less per device than CrowdStrike Falcon Go and about a third of SentinelOne Singularity Complete, and it carries a strong AV-TEST protection record. Buy Core when you have an analyst who acts on alerts and want one console for a mixed fleet.

If Bitdefender is also on your shortlist, read our Bitdefender review before you decide.

The catch is that managed detection starts at 10 devices and $1,030.00 a year on Premium, which is the number to set against Huntress at $1,078.80 for the same count.

For a team that cannot staff alert watch, Premium is the honest choice, and it should be bought on that basis rather than on Core's headline rate.

Frequently asked questions

How much does ESET cost for a business?

ESET PROTECT Core costs $54.90 per device a year for 5 to 10 devices on a one-year term, $46.70 at 11 to 25 devices and $38.40 from 50 devices. Premium, which adds 24/7 monitoring, starts at 10 devices and costs $103.00 per device a year at that count. Ultimate is quote-only.

Is ESET worth it for a small business?

For a team of 5 to 10 devices with someone who reads alerts, yes. AV-TEST gave ESET's business product, tested as PROTECT Advanced 12.1, a 6 out of 6 for protection in its October and December 2025 Windows rounds, and its per-device rate sits below CrowdStrike Falcon Go. Without that person, Premium is the real decision, and it costs $48.80 less than Huntress' list rate for the same 10 endpoints.

Does ESET have a free plan for business?

No. ESET's business page offers a trial that needs no credit card, but no permanent free tier.

Is ESET cheaper than CrowdStrike?

On an annual bill, yes. ESET PROTECT Core costs less per device than CrowdStrike Falcon Go billed annually at 5 to 10 devices, a gap of about $5 a device. CrowdStrike's $7.99 monthly rate comes to $95.88 a year, and ESET lists no monthly plan on this page, so compare annual to annual.

Does ESET include managed detection and response?

Yes, but only in Premium, which starts at 10 devices. Premium adds 24/7 threat monitoring with expert-led response and costs $103.00 per device a year at 10 devices. Core has no managed monitoring, so buy it only if your own team watches the alerts.
